greasing a ferris spindle
does the ferris 2003 hydro cut 32'' 13hp kawasaki, have grease fittings for the spindles or are they sealed bearings. manual says to grease spindles but can't find any zerks anywhere. just got mower and want to take care of mower,
plus i just put brand new blades on the mower and the blades hit each other (barely) for about 5 minutes and they wore down to not hitting each other. seems to cut fine, was just wondering if this was normal for this mower. checked blade part # and they are the right blades

Spindle grease fittings. Some have fittings and some do not. Some are on top of the deck and some are on bottom of the deck. The ones on bottom can be hard to find as most often they are covered over by grass build up. If the spindles have ever been replaced makes a difference as well. Not all replacement spindles are the same as the OEM spindles. You may have a mixed batch of spindles where one may have the grease fitting on top where as the other spindle has it on the bottom if it has one at all. You will just have to clean and check each spindle for a grease fitting top and bottom.
As for the blades hitting each other I have seen this on all makes and models of machine. After market are bad about being just a bit too long or too short.

I picked out a Hydrocut out of the list on their website, no guarantee that it applies since you included no model numbers in your post. If you download the link and go to page 58, it show a grease zerk in the top of the spindle shaft.
http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocum...aRdZVj5K1w.pdf As fixer indicated, the fitting could be in other locations depending on model numbers and moreso if the OEM's have been replaced with aftermarket parts. |

yup it was just rubbing, sounded like someone was using a lighter not hitting much just enough to notice it

Quote:
i wired brushed the spindle under the deck to see if there is a fitting hiding but no luck on either of them, i will have to check again under the deck, maybe there is a hole and the zerk is missing. the manual says to grease at the top of spindle shaft, but can't
