Battery won't hold a charge

We've got a 2007 Hustler Super Z with a 31hp Kawasaki engine with 700 hours. The battery will not hold a charge. You can charge the battery and it will crank the mower probably 20 times. I don't think the mower has an alternator. What's your thoughts?

It may or may not be a sealed battery. If it isnt sealed, see if it needs some water added to it. If the cells are low on water this will happen. Use distilled water as tap water may contain minerals that can harm the battery.

OR

Take the battery out & go to auto zone/ advanced auto or a battery sales shop and have a load test run. My guess is the battery is shot.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that the original battery was replaced and this issue is with the replacement battery.

Have that battery load tested before going any farther. You may have a bad one..

^ what they said.. sometimes even the new batteries are sitting on the shelfs for many months and go bad too.

The mower does have a charging system. Is it working properly?

How do check the charging system? The mower doesn't have an alternator, what makes up the charging system?

It does have a charging system. Part of it is under the fly wheel. You have a voltage regulator also.

when the mower is running, see if the voltage on the battery is 13/14v (or remains the same )
