Lawn customer wants estimate

So this guy wants an estimate for lawn mowing...I give it to him...standard contract biweekly mowing throughout the growing season...he come back with: "so what do you do when it does not rain like last summer and the grass does not need mowing? (We are in TEXas and had a really bad drought last year).

Do I:
1) belittle him and ask WTF are you doing living in a house with a lawn, when you don't plan on watering?
2) Educate him on the need to water grass to keep it alive and healthy- healthy grass grows, growing grass needs to be cut...you do want to keep your grass alive?
3) Have a little fun with him and mow his grass for a few months and let the hose run each time I am there, while adding a little fertilizer...watch the grass green up during July instead of dying off as he prob. has happen

I decided to NOT write the yearly contract as it was gonna be a waste of my time- Did #2, but wanted to do #1

I remind homeowners that THEIR turf is there to keep THEIR land from eroding away.

I like that answer a lot--we have a winner-

Typically, I tell them about the heat island effect and how their house will be several degrees warmer without a nice lawn...or....grass dies, weeds grow....weeds grow faster than grass, you will have to cut it more-

...When I was really young, I had a couple of times in the heat of the day where I would tell people what I thought...ended up just making me feel really nice for a few hours and made for a good drinking story, but not so proud now....I was kindof an a..hole in those days--I look back and shake my head and think : I can't believe I actually said that--it was always like a slow motion car wreck....it just rolled off my tongue and then I had to own up to what I said...made me lots more humble now-

No contract, no service is generally the rule--makes no difference to me biweekly or weekly-we fill our days accordingly-typically turn away troubled people like this...I just hate to tell them: NO THANKS, keep your money, we have the HOA...so this dude could get on the board if he gets ticked off-

noone where i live waters their grass ever. only a few rich neighborhoods have sprinkler systems. most of them would prefer for the lawn to turn brown so they wouldn't have to pay someone to cut it.

ok still new at this starting my business last year. When it got so hot here in Oklahoma I just didn't mow. If you sign a contract then they need to pay you regardless of factors of weather. I don't have set contracts with my bi weekly but they can call and go on my list to do but I wont jump through hoops for them. I don't like to charge when there is nothing to mow but I don't do this to ear a living either

Spent lots of years pulling my hair out over dead lawns due to lack of rain...and then the flood of people calling when it did- trying to get me there and being upset becasue we couldn't get there when EVERYONE called on Thursday or Friday and had to have it mowed. You guys have some of the most difficult schedules....I think I'd have to install irrigation systems or go do something else...cause I used to hate waiting for the phone to ring-

-here in Texas, there is a new product out for you guys who have lots of yards that don't water...and would like to keep them somewhat alive- Ready Play--Field magic (also to save on water bills)
