It looks like it holds the hill like a mofo.

Hey. How's this for timing?
The other day I unloaded the mower at the end of the day and here's what the hour meter said... ![]() Can't beat THAT for timing for the first (8 hour) oil change!

I'm not impressed with "side discharge" mowing. Not even a little bit.
Keep in mind that this is my second season and I've never used a walk behind before. My first season I used a new 21" Toro SR4 Super Recycler exclusively and mulched almost every lawn unless the height required bagging. I must say that it mulches beautifully. The lawns look great when I mulch using my little Toro 21" Super Recycler, but when I use the Ferris and side discharge, I'm left with a blanket of clippings (weekly clients, cutting height 3") that requires me to go back with a backpack blower and attempt to disperse them. I took pics with my phone - I'll try to upload them later. I'm embarrassed by the results. I don't understand how people mow like this on a regular basis. It's still too soon for me to install the mulch kit because I may still get some "first cuts" with tall grass, but I'm holding out hope that mulching will be better. God, I hope so. I spent all this money on a commercial mower, and I'm left with a mess to clean up after I use it. I dunno if trying G6 Gator blades would help or not for side discharging until I install the mulch kit. |

Believe me, they will. That's why I got my first set to try last summer. Now I don't use anything else for regular cutting. They cut down on double cutting so much that I rarely have to do it anymore. They do an excellent job of chopping the clippings into pieces small enough to drop down into the turf and out of sight.

Here's a "first cut" I did last week.
I think the last it was cut must have been mid summer last year - it was bad. There were a ton of leaves embedded in it as well. I wish I were being paid to get them out of there because that drives me nuts leaving debris in there like that. Oh well. (The sides and front had been cut previously) ![]() Just wait... the bad part is in the back. ![]() POW!!! ![]() ![]() First pass... ![]() ![]() I knew I'd have to go over it a few times, so I just mowed "rows" through it initially... ![]() Then I started raking. ![]() ![]() Fortunately, I was able to drag the clippings up the hill into the woods. ![]() Tada! ![]() Before: ![]() After:
