Took the Plunge!

I had the deal of a lifetime fall into my lap. I had been kicking around the idea of going reel type mowing for all of my customers. I come from the golf course industry and worked towards a turf grass management degree a ways back in college. I prefer the quality of cut of a reel mower and went with Toro equipment for my fleet. Will be running Toro Greensmaster 1000's for smaller city lots and running Toro Greensmaster 3150 triplex mower for larger properties. Also picked up a set of verticut reels for the 3150 and groomers on the 1000's.

What will be using to sharpen the reels and bedknife's? I used to have a reel grinding business that I would do in the winter for golf courses, but sold it this fall. I really enjoyed doing it, just wanted to pursue some investments, and decided to sell.

I was a superintendent at a small 9 hole course after college, and really do miss mowing with reel mowers.
Once your season starts, you'll have to put up some pics of your amazing stripes.

I have access to a mechanic at one of our college golf courses. I have been looking into the grinding business, but not sure how to market it and the initial investment for for a bedknife and spin grinder is crazy. I do have a foley backlapper i use between grinds. I used one of the one 1000's for the last 7 years on my own house and just started the lawn business last year as I didn't see anyone else using reels or especially golf course type equipment. I was an assit super for a few years and really miss it, but just couldn't make any money. I am a Systems Admin for the government as my main job now but planning to jump ship and mow full time in the next 3 years. I will post some pics of clients lawns from last year after i resize them.

Got it all, cheaper than a new 60" Z Master Pro 5000. Great deals are out there if you shop around. That included a 1000.00 to ship it to me. Now I can charge the same amount as the rotary guys and provide a better cut. The triplex will turn almost as tight as a ztr and not tear up the turf. Will be looking for volume this mowing season to pay it all off. Chasing the high end .25 acre or larger lots now in my area.

Thanks Larry. You around the Orange Beach or Gulf Shores area? I vacation in Destin Florida every year and cruise through the above areas on my way by.
