I would explain to the client that you did them a favor. The wooden post should have given before the concrete. Had you not pointed that out (by example), the entire thing could have failed come next deep frost. It could also have happened to be their christmas part and aunt Edna was smoking on the deck.

Do they want aunt Edna to break her hip on Christmas?
