Turf dieing under Leaves

With the mild winter, I had to go out and remove small piles of Oak Leaves , every time the snow melted, in various locations... and of course the grass was already yellowing as a result... but at least the yards were relatively clean by Spring...

However, with the daily strong winds and the pine boughs strewn about for the past couple of weeks, many little collections of leaves around those boughs, seem to have killed the grass underneath...

Has anyone else found this to be a problem where the trees are plentiful and the wind has kept you from ongoing cleanups??? Like today...
Now that I know that clay's texture(platelets) has nothing to do with water infiltration, percolation, or drainage
,,, I wonder what does...
