Please Help/Advice

Well heres my situation, for anyone who as any advertisement or ways to get customers this would be the time to chime in, im 17 and have roughly 5-7 customers, but i need more, i want to make lawn cutting my main job, ive put 3 yard signs up at 3 seperate intersections and advertised with door hangers in 3 sub divisions, but only have got a few calls, should i continue door hangers?? more signs? i understand word of mouth is a big thing but i need to get myself out there but with few customes this will be hard, what would be your way to get out there???? my equipment is old, so is my truck, trailer is getting repainted next week with new fenders, also looking into some 'new' handhelds, some used shindaiwa's/redmax's, any help or advice would be great

Tyler,
I think if you look you'll see lots of threads on this forum on how to advertise and there's lots of options. Honestly You just have to find something that works for you. One person will tell you signs work best another will say it's the classified ads or Facebook.

That said there are lots of FREE adverting options, craigslist, google places, and Facebook. Being a technical guy one reason I like Facebook is you can ask your family and friends to share status updates, specials etc. It's digital word of mouth. My site is also free to create a listing of your services and show and tell how you are different.

But in the end, marketing your business is a challenge every business owner has no matter how long they've been in business. Best of luck to you though, and great that your out there making your own way in the world

Just keep doing what you are doing. Work hard, do anything you can to get your name out there- day after day. It takes time, but you can do it.

Keep pushing the door hangers! they have yielded us almost 20 accounts so far this year, but we have already put out about 3600 (out of 5000). A couple of sub divisions doesn't do it, keep hanging over and over again all through your target areas.

Craigslist: its free, use it

Get yourself a website. If you root around you can get a really nice one for cheap or free.

Business cards: I assume you have them, but get some NICE ones with glossy card stock, go on vistaprint.com and design them yourself.

Present yourself well, speak well, be organized when you talk to people and give estimates, and things will move!

Check out vflyer.com. You can put together a nice looking ad there. It's free, very easy, and will make you look more professional. You may also want to sign up for Redbeacon.com, thumbtack.com, homeblue.com, etc. They all work a little differently but the basic idea is that they bring you leads and you pay them a fee if you get the job. I like Redbeacon the best- check it out.
