Fertilizing question
Would you fertilize a lawn that has no irrigation and only relies on rainfall?

Yep, why wouldn't you?
The only issue that might arise is any summer apps you might put down. If it is hot and dry, you might get some Fert burn. ....

It depends on what fertilizer you use. For example chemical slow release nitrogen ferts release nitrogen by hydrolysis (water). Physical slow release slowly break down without water and is pretty safe to use - low burn potential. Organic slow release also has low burn potential. Etc... So some need water to breakdown whereas some dont. However, water is helpful in reducing burn but you need a decent amount. If the grass is dry or damp, it is hot outside (>~90ºF), or not watered in, burn can occur (how much depends on the fert). So some need water right after you apply it and some can probably wait till the next rain.
What are you think of applying? What is the temperature outside? |

Centipede grass. 15-0-15. This is the time to do it but I know centipede doesn't like a lot of nitrogen and some people want it to be green as st. Augustine, so they cake on high nitro fert to green it up and it ends up with all kinds of problems.
So add that with no supplemental water and I can end up with an un-satisfied customer. Ya know? |

That should be good, but I would recommend getting a soil test if you havent already. Get a physical slow release fertilizer. I know centipede does not like the soil nutrients to change quickly and high nitrogen like you said. Maybe plan the application right before a good rain if possible.

Yes. Apply fertilizer when you know that rain will be coming later that day or evening.
