RoundUp does not do very much to woody vines. Try Garlon 4 ester painted onto the stem of the vine. All you need is to paint some on 1 stem.

What kind of vines? Poison ivy? Wild morning glory (bindweed)? Is there a chance you could spray when the barberry is dormant?
Wild morning glory can be cleaned up with Drive (see label).

Otherwise its difficult--crawl underneath--using rose shears, cut the vine off near the soil line. Everything above the cut will die. You will miss some and the roots will sprout. So repeat in two weeks. And repeat again. Never let the vines get more than 6 inches tall--that way the top cannot send food to the roots; the roots will die. Certain times of the year may work better than others--vines may be more visible in spring or fall.
