Ryan Aerator Chain Guide
I have an older Ryan Air IV Aerator that I bought used. I believe it is from the late 80's or early 90's. I noticed the chain is from the rear tine to the front drum is rubbing on a tube that runs the width across the bottom of the frame. The chanins slack is not enough to remove a chain link and the slack adjuster doesn't solve the problem.
Could someone send me a pic of the chain routing and slack adjuster on their machine? I wonder what I am overlooking? Is their a wearable guide that mounts on the bar? Thanks, Jamie |

This may or may not be the problem but if it is you can be chasing problems around all day if your chain is worn to the point you need a whole new chain, that is usually the case when the tensioner is to the limit and the chain is still too slack, on the other hand you should be able to take a link out and adjust the tensioner the other way...
But I want to caution you, if the chain is worn and you take a link out to fix it, that won't hold up but so long before a link simply snaps. Unfortunately I have no way to tell whether you need a new chain, but new ones run between 20 to 30 dollars and it probably wouldn't hurt to have one around... |

I have a similar problem. My aerator threw the chain off the front (that goes around the roller) sprocket while I was doing a lawn. I didn't notice it as it kept going without a problem. When I did notice it it had about eaten the bolts off and now it throws the chain regularly because the tensioner sprocket is now shot. Anyone have any ideas on where to buy new sprockets?

No not at all. Oh wait, an idea is coming to me. Maybe a Ryan dealer would be able to get you parts for a Ryan aerator.

You could call a harbour freight or Princess Auto to try a cheap alternative. You can try your local dealer or an online shop such as Jacks Small engine etc. I go on the online sites to use their parts diagrams and look up the part number. Then call around and see who has the part in stock.

Hey Pugs thanks, I was simply trying to find an alternative source. I know when I contact them it's going to be expensive.
67 ghia TIV, thanks, I am in the process of checking online sites now.
