exmark lazer electrical problem .

I have a 2004 exmark lazer 60" with kohler command pro 27hp w/2400hrs on it . I was cutting along and it shut off. Checked the fuses and I had a blown fuse replaced it and it blew again . Now it is blowing both fuses. I need help I don't have a service manual for it, I have the tools to trace the wires for shorts but I'm not sure how to get the shroud around the flywheel off. Can I get alittle help please. Also if anyone has experience with this same issue if you could save me some time and aggravation I would appreciate it.

Unplug the 3 wire plug on the regulator...
replace the fuses...if it stops blowing fuses..the stator and possibly the flywheel magnets are bad.

thanks for the tip ill try it tonight after work. would you know how to get the shroud off the flywheel.

I believe you can download a manual from Kohler...
Theres alot of parts in there....It'd be helpful to you to be somewhat familiar with them.

I did download the manual but I did not see any instructions for removing the shroud .

You need the repair manual.
Maybe someone will chime in and post a link to it.

On the assumption you have a horizontial shaft ,the motor has to come off.

1. Unhook the throttle , choke ,fuel line , battery cable at the starter and un-hook the wiring harness, un bolt the bracket holding the PTO and unplug PTO. Take the belt off the hydro pumps. Unbolt motor from the machine and take motor off.

2. You need to loosen the 2 retaining bolts holding the pulley for the hydros and take it off of the crankshaft ..(you may need a gear puller).

3. Take out the 4 long bolts holding the screen and blower fan in place (this has to be removed in order for the shroud to come off)

4 .Unbolt all the little bolts holding the shroud on . Be carefull not to mix the bolts up , some are longer than others . Going off memory , I think you may need to remove the 2 lower bolts holding the valve cover on .

Once youve got it apart might as well throw 2 new coils on it and change the head gasket , intake gasket, breather cover gasket and filter and have a valve job done on it and replace the 2 main seals... Its not hard to take it all apart but the first time its kinda a PITA...Good Luck

FYI....you can eliminate step 2 if you have an air ratchet and a deep 10mm socket...
Remove the screen bolts...use the air ratchet to remove the 4 bolts that attach the aux pto shaft to the crank...
Done a hundred of them.....

You learn something new everyday. I never thought about putting a long extension on it.
When Ive had to do it the hardest part was getting the pullry retaining bolts loosened. I used the back side of a 1/2 in extension.... Thanks Slapper
