Accepting credit cards?
I was watching duck dynasty today and a commercial came on for this "Square" credit card reader for android and iphones. Well after reading up on it, they charge you 2.75% but it lets you accept mastercard and visa credit cards. I was thinking that maybe this would be a nice thing for our businesses.
Just charge a 3% "convenience" fee for using a credit card on site? What you guys think? |

Just raise prices 5% and make a profit and then you do not have to listen to all the following post.

How does it provide a receipt? Do you just use your hand normal billing invoice and mark as credit card?

Obviously it comes down to semantics, so if you feel you need to recoup your costs, increase your prices across the board, but offer a discount for cash.

Clients are fickle anyway. The complain about ATM fees and I think some other big company was going to add a connivance fee. Yes people are penny wise and pound foolish.
Not worth the head ache, either be prepared to eat the charge for the sake of getting paid faster, tweak your prices slightly or do do it but adding a fee is not so great. I know I have seen card readers in Cabs, they charge a fee to use them, goes to the processor... the cabbies hate it because people often say well, I do not need to tip since I paid this fee. Bottom line is do not rock the boat with extra fees. Just start assuming when you quote a job they will pay with a CC. It is more than the cost of a stamp and envelop... it can be painful on larger jobs. You hate to see $6 dollars fly out the window on a $350 job. You could buy a cigar and light it with a one dollar bill and get more enjoyment. |
