atom edgers 2 stroke or 4 stroke

which is the best mode for an atom edger? Does vibration have an effect on operater over long edging jobs? Which would be the smoothest if at all different?

the 4 stroke would be smoother. it's a honda engine. i would get the gx35cc model but the gx25cc model would be good too.

I demoed the 4 and it did well. It was heavier then the two. The only place I felt it would be beneficial was very long sidewalks or curbs. Not meant for smaller runs. Hope that helps

a lot of guys in Australia hate the 4 stroke and only recommend the 2 stroke in the atom edger

why? it's quieter, has more torque, and uses less gas.

Less torque and heavier, at least that was the case when I demoed. Also, the Honda they have in them for the 4 stroke is weak

I have used an Atom 560 edger with the 35cc Honda 4 stroke for about 5 years without any problems at all and it does a great job.
Both the Atom 560 with the Honda 35 cc 4stroke and the Atom 580 with the 33cc Mitsubishi 2stroke put out the same 1.6hp both have rubber shock cushioned handles and both weigh 20lbs

yeah they have the residential models that come with a 25cc honda engine and they also have the commercial that comes with the 35cc. my husqvarna edger has the 25cc and works fine and has plenty of power so i know the 35cc will have even more power.

where do you buy atom edgers?

For a push edger, are the weight and vibration that important?
Honda is a very good engine, known to be reliable.

Not sure you can get them in the US.
They are great for doing heaps of regular square edging like shopping centres, schools etc. I bought one several yrs ago to use on a development that required square edging on kerbs and footpaths. I think it was around 4km's all up.

To the OP, I have the Komatsu 2 stroke and it worked well except the on/off switch broke (expensive replacement) and the start recoil mechanism sometimes wont grab so can be difficult to start.
I am a fan of 2 stroke due to less maintenance and have the fuel for my other trimmers anyway.

The blades can wear pretty quickly so look into the thick 3mm ASP blades.
