What To Do With Old Cell Phones

I have changed cell phone carriers and now have 4 Nokia 5160s beginning to collect dust. Is there any orgs that still want them as a charitable donation or a recycler that will buy them? Even my church doesn't want/need them.

If you have a local shelter for abused women, they always need them. Any cell phone is capable of contacting 911, even if it is not activated with any carrier. They'll even take old analog cells.

Throw them up in the air and hit them with a baseball bat. That's all they're good for so you might as well have some fun with them. With all the promotions with cell phones today, you never really have to lay out any cash when you get the service anyways. They always work the phone in somehow.

You may want to hang onto it. There's going to be a trade-in promotion with one of the big companies soon. Wish I could tell you how I know but, I don't want to get someone in trouble. Also, I still have an analog bag phone. I'll save it because it's getting rare. Biggest pain in changing service sometimes is getting another phone, trade in makes sense.

You can sell that bag phone on Ebay for about $500.00. I have seen other bag phones go for that much. I like that idea of giving the phones to the shelters. This can also be a tax write-off.

If you decide to throw the phones away, at least recycle the batteries. Not sure where to take them though.

I also donated my old cell phone to a local women's shelter. This one was at the YWCA. They got a good used phone for a good cause and I got a receipt for a tax write off. (They gave me a receipt for what I paid for the phone brand new-can't beat that)

I have gone through a bunch of phones over the past few years. I just took my old Nokia's (except for one) and brought them to my dealer who gave me cash for them. I had gone into a nextel office today... the new replacement for the i700... $180
