Our local sherriffs department takes old phones and donates them to the elderly for 911 emergencies.

There's also a websight i read about somewhere that takes them and either donates or sells them very cheap to third world countries where people otherwise have to spend a month's worth of pay or more for a phone!!

we had them reactivated with prepaid minutes and gave them as christmas gifts
