As for them charging off the truck while driving, I don't think that is the case, my irrigation guys were trying to tell me their F250 6.0 did that but I don't see it. My interior lights do turn on when the truck is hooked up though.

I wonder if you can get that as a separate accessory and put it on a different brand of trailer?

I bet you can... I have seen what seems to be the exact same setup on a few different brands of trailers.

Why???????

it should charge off the 12v constant in your trailer plug, which should also be charging the battery for your trailers breakaways. If youre dumping a lot I would definitely look into the updated leads like guys use for electric spreaders or a solar charger to help it out

That is exactly the reason.

RJ, whenever i use a dump trailer its being loaded and unloaded 6+ times a day so I think ill have to look into a solar charger for sure.

Ours handled it no problem.
I am not an expert but if I remember right some chevys have a different wire set up for trailers. You may not be charging the trailer if it one from your buddies Ford. Look up the trailer wiring diagram for your truck and compare it to the trailer setup.
I could be totally wrong but for some reason remember something like this.

Good luck finding a Kodiak that someone is willing to part with... Those who have them are keeping them unless they are wore out.
