"R" stands for Rundumgriff, which means round-wrap-handle or loop handle as we know it.

"FS" stands for Freischneider, which means brushcutter.

P.S. My uncle is German so I can still spreak the language though somewhat less fluent.

This thread stopped being relevant awhile back...
From what I can gather...it looks as if the Stihl dealers will assemble just about any engine with any shaft...they probably get deals on the slow moving handlebar trimmers and covert them in the back of their shops..
Nothing like boosting your profits.....
