The Inevitable Tree Cones!

I am always watching for common mistakes made by maintenance crews on large Commercial sites. This particular site is the big ole chain of Burger King. This site is from a newer franchise outlet built about 6 year ago on one of our Highway inlets. I hope these photo's will educate some installers and companies on the importance of not coning up the mulch around the trunk of young trees. The one photo is totally jam packed with the end results. DEATH!! The other photo is remnant of the stress sprouts coming forth from adventitious root sprouts. I did inspect the depth of the mulch at the ground level..........more than a foot of mulch coned around the bases.
