Course its a pissing match. Its true, all these insane numbers of torque dont make much difference, 5 ft/lbs here, 10 hp there, no noticeable difference. But this huge diesel war going on right now is great! It means these companies are struggling to expand their diesels, make them faster, more powerful, more fuel effiecient, more reliable, all for less money! This is great! Pretty soon diesels will be smoking gas cars in races while being able to pull as much as a semi while getting 24 MPG. Maybe not quite that exagerated, but you get my point.


Brickman, about the new F-350s. Sweet arent they? I had so much fun, I used the 6 speed manuel, very nice. I must get one.

And just a quick question, you know how Dodge is claiming to have 40% less moving parts? I just had a thought, Cummins is a I-6, Powerstroke is a V-8, thats two less cylinders. Of course it has 40% less moving parts. Is that the reasoning behind that bit of marketing?
Oh yes, Ford RULES!

Looking at the article it looks like a give and take for the big 3 diesels... the article is right, WHo in there right mind who go drag racing with a 12K trailer behind it????


But I did notice that the chevy did move quicker a little with out the trailer vs with the trailer in comparison to the other 2 trucks...

Being a chevy guy, I personally like to see the bowtie win, but no matter what it still comes down to personal prefference.... I know that you can't move most bowtie, ford or dodge people off their trucks!!!!


Also Gravel Rat, the smaller displacement motor seems to show it a little bit in the numbers with the smaller Ford motor.. and I agree with you, there is nothing like hearing an old muscle car big block start up and go... I will admit it sounds a little better than a diesel with a nice 454 big block dual exhaust.... not as many around this area anymore.. kinda miss that!!!!!

Swamper good luck getting MDB to commit to a duel. I have tried more than once. No luck. CUZ HE KNOWS HE WILL GET BEAT.

One other thing I forgot to mention about the new engine is there is no noticable turbo lag like they all have now. The variable vein turbo takes care of that. I am interested in seeing how reliable THAT is. Much as I love that test drive I took I will wait a few years before buying one. Let some body else take the down time on a new model. Ford says they tested that engine and trans over 1 million miles before it was available for sale to the public.

Hey brickman, I will duel anybody, but your location is a tad bit far away for me to come. When your on the east coast let me know. Ive already tooled on one powerstroke that had exhaust, intake and computer, so lets see what your propane fed ford can do. If you were to win, i would gladly shake hands and say good race. Will that happen, i doubt it?, but i wouldnt be a sore loser, because im not a total ford hater.

I just read an article in Autoweek about the popularity of diesels in Europe. A full 30% of their vehicles are diesel. They even have an AMG tuned Mercedes diesel over there that does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds! The predicition is for diesels to gain in popularity here as we get tougher emissions laws on them.

As for the 40% less moving parts, that just means less to break! Of course the cummins still has more main bearings than the Ford or Chevy motors. In stock form, there's no way a Cummins can keep up with a Powerstroke or Duramax from stoplight to stoplight. But, with injectors and a fuel timing box, in my opinion, there is no finer towing engine than a Cummins. Of course it comes wrapped in a Dodge, which is ok by me, but I can understand why some don't like it.

And as for displacement, Cummins has been doing it for years with 1.4 less liters than the Powerstroke.
