Greasing Scag Spindles...

What are you using to grease scag spindles?
I went and bought a new gun and lithium grease, but it isn't white... Please let me know what you are using...

gulfjoe - on all my other stuff I use red n tacky. I asked when I bought my v-ride if I could just use that on the scag . . . dealer told me if it comes in for warranty and they see anything but white grease it will void warranty. Take it for what it's worth.

Lithium will work just fine in all positions we encounter. Nothing on a mower woule be considered extreme as far as grease ratings. I don't like to mix greases, but have yet to see any negative reactions with the lithium types.

So mixing a gray lithium with whatever is currently in the spindle( most likely white) shouldn't be an issue?

Also how do you guys know there has been enough grease installed?

Shouldn't be a problem. Some guys like 1 to 2 pumps per week. I prefer to watch the seal and stop when I see the seal rise just a little. Don't forget to wipe the fitting before attatching the gun hose. Introduing foreign bodies to the grease is a more serious concern.
