Hydro-Gear C-IZT Filter Kit

I just purchased a used Hustler Fastrak 52 with 141 hours on it. It is a model 926501 s/n 05111868. I am getting all the survice done on it as the previous owner was a medical facility that converted their landscaping to xeriscape with no grass. It has sat in the shop unused for the last couple of years.

My research indicates it has the now obsolete Hydro-Gear C-IZT transmissions and needs a filter kit (Hustler p/n 789511).

So my two questions are 1) Where can I get the filter kits and how much would they be? 2) Is there a particular type of 20w50 oil you would recommend for the pumps? Mineral or synthetic, special additives, etc.

Good Morning,
The filter kit you need is Hustler part # 789511, as you found out, and you need 1 per side, for a total of 2 of them.
You can get them from any Hustler dealer, check with the dealer for pricing as I donít have parts pricing, we do not sell parts or units to end userís, sorry.
As to oil, I would go with synthetic and stick with a good known name brand, Mobil 1, Amsoil etcÖ

I took my Hustler Fastrak 52" w/ Honda 20hp to the dealer as recommended. I asked them to change the oil in the C-IZT 2600 hydros and install the filter kit 789511 (one each side).

They kept the mower for 3 weeks and called me to pick it up. They said the units are not serviceable, so unless you want to buy new hydros there is nothing you can do. They did try to adjust the hydros a bit. It is a tiny bit better when the hydros are cold, but much worse after they warm up.
Again, I only have 144 hours on the machine, the tire pressure is correct and there are no leaks.
Can I service the units myself? Do I really even need the filters, or is just changing the oil and having equal amounts on each side sufficient?
It is difficult to control when cutting close to walks and walls. I have owned a couple of Walkers, which were extremely precise and perfectly smooth and balanced...

Am I expecting too much?

The dealer is mistaken, your unit uses the above listed filters and they should be replaced, along with the oil, the screen in the filter can plug up and cause what your describing.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I continued a search online and found a source for the filter kits. I also ordered Mobil 1 in 20W50 as a replacement oil.

It cost me 3 weeks and $75 to be told the hydros can't be serviced by the local dealer. Is this something I could tackle on my own?

There is also a local Walker/Toro/Stihl dealer who I have bought a lot from and I have been very pleased with their service. Is that a good option in your opinion?

This can easily be done yourself, if your mechanically inclined.
