Minimum Pricing

So i got my first call of the season.. Looking for an estimate for wkly residential mowing ( sub division lot) She said her first estimate, guy said his wkly minimum is $69 per wk... That's like unheard of around here.. Most start at $35 to $40 and go up but $69... She was like WOW.... I said i'll go tomorrow and give an estimate.... Now this isn't an acre or nothing, just straight sub division mowing no fence and minimal trimming according to her.. I'll guess i'll see tomorrow...

You know that's what i was thinking also... CRAZY... I hear alot of guys here get $50 minimum, while most solo's such as myself are $35 and up but i have'nt seen anyone around here that's big enough to ask $70 minimum for mowing...

so if she was quoted 69 and you would normaly charge 35 split the difference. 69-35=34/2=17+35=52
shoot her a bid for 52.00 you will be cheaper then the compotition and improve your bottom line. If you get the feeling she is still not going to bite. offer her a 10% discount 52x10%=5.2-52=46.80. I know it seems complicated but it works and it will improve your profit margins. I started doing that a few years back and have had great sucess in closing bids for more than I would normally bid.

Sounds like he threw out a price she would say no to because he didnt want and/or need the work. Maybe it is out of the area he services and that would be his minimum to travel.

another idea, maybe he has a bad taste in his mouth from other "inner city" residences. maybe he had equipment stolen from when operating in this neighborhood and is just insuring against a loss. maybe he really gets that much as a minimum and you should raise yours

You might want to pull up the address on Google satellite and see what the layout is. Is it in an area you normally service?

The next time someone complains about your pricing, ask them how much their barber would charge to come over and cut their hair.
