what does an old metal pipe irrigation system look like?

I'm ripping out my back yard and found a 1.5" steel pipe that was capped off. I want to make sure it is not a gas line of any kind. I know there was an old system consisting of steel piping, but don't know why it would be capped off. Any way to know what it is? Thanks in advance!

heres the pipe. you tell me. I dug a little more and followed it and it goes underneath the 3' section of concrete that goes around my pool. My guess is it is just an old irrigation line. what you think?

Have you taken the cap off? Our elders did plan for expansion, is there any wire around, or could it be pre-valve stuff?

no wires around it. There was a tree and concrete over top of it previously. I tracked it and it goes under concrete and looks like it dead ends into the pool wall.

It is most likely where the "deck box" would go for a pool light, which your pool probably used to have. That would be why the other end dead-ends at the pool wall. I'm surprised its a 1.5" line though...
