Blades-wear

I have noticed that my blades are wearing funny. It seems like the center of the cutting edge is a little further in than the rest of the cutting edge. This has happened a few times . What causes this to happen? It kind of indents a bit . It is harder to get the blades sharpend in that section of steel because it is not flush with the rest of the cutting edge. Thanks

I've noticed that on my zero turn and I can only attribute it to the recent dry conditions and running over a lot of areas that are sandy. Sand will erode the blades pretty quickly. I also noticed the blade on the discharge side is worse than the other two so I've been rotating them after sharpening.

how clean is the underside of your deck
when was the last time you replaced the blades
have you check your spindles

what is happening is your mower is creating a vacuum on the middle part of the deck and sucking the grass up from that part more than the edges of the deck. this equals a cut where it looks like the grass has been rutted

I thought you sold out? What you said is not his problem. It's the sand causing the blade to do what he's describing. It's eating the blade away. Sandy soil can eat a hole in the deck as well. The air movement under the deck will throw sand at the same spot and start to eat the deck away.

Good old Florida sand. Mine do the same. I notice it more when I don't sharpen daily.

This happens to my blades too. I learned that rotating blades is essential to even wear. After you sharpen your blades, place the one that was closest to the discharge chute on the opposite side of the deck, and move the other one(s) towards the chute.
