Spindle problem

I think my spindle might be going bad as it is making a loud clacking sound. I grease them every week. What are the signs of a bad spindle? My mower is a 2011 Jd Z950. Roughly how much to replace them? My mower has a little over700 hrs on it and 3 months left on the warrenty so I hope it will be covered. How easy is it to replace? Thanks for any input

Pull the belt off and spin the pulley and listen and feel, rough = bearings shot or on their way out at least. I don't know about a Deere but Exmark spindles are easy, I can swap one in less than 30 minutes give or take.

It's likely the bearings gone bad, the spindle itself is probably all right.

With a loud clanking I would look under the deck to see if one of the baffles has worn away and the blade is hitting it. If you do lots of Bahia the sand will wear out the baffles first. One of my Scags broke lose they other day and it has only about 400 hours. A big hammer and welder fixed it until the winter time when I will replace them with 1/4 in baffles. This is a very common problem in FL with the sand.
