Um 93 would make a larger explosion causing the engine to run hotter. Your argument hold no water. Not detrimental to the motor just hotter.

you do know the octane rating on fuel is its resistance to burn right. it has absolutely no bearing on how hot the fuel runs. it literally just means it harder to ignite at high pressure. which is why higher octanes have to be run in high performance engines.

which is why it is recomended to run higher octane in small engines due to the fact that regular can ignite pre maturely under high temp/high compression applications. thus causing engine damage to smaller weaker components in small engines. 93 octane is designed to not ignite before the spark plug actually ignites it. while in certain situations 87 can self ignite durring compression.

Well explained Tizzy. I for one many years ago did not understand octane ratings either. When I would occasionally try high octane fuel in my vehicles with absolutely no noticeable performance gain....I was perplexed. Years later I understand that my vehicles were designed to run on 87 octane and most likely would [I]never[I] benefit from anything higher.

I use 87 in all of my lawn equipment. I have tried 89 in my Red Max trimmer and Husqvarna blower and cant tell any difference.

87. Dont feel like paying the difference. Fuel is already expensive enough.

Yeah... Stihl recommends 89 with no more than 10% ethanol. According to Stihl 87 octane will make the engine run hotter.
