Wheat grass?

I planted a new lawn this past spring. I put straw down on it on the advise of a landscaper. I am sorry I did. I believe I have wheat grass taking over my lawn now. I attached a few pictures if someone could confirm that is what it is and get any advice on getting rid of it. Thanks in advance.

you would be lucky if it was wheat, it isn't wheat.

If it isn't wheat, do you (or anyone else) have a clue what it is? That leads me to a second question, use weed killer? If it's not wheat it had to either be in the topsoil I bought or in the straw itself. It's only in the areas I laid the new topsoil and straw on.

Seems awfully even. Was your grass seed contaminated?

One way to get rid of it:

Mow the lawn fairly short. Now wait a few days. The coarse grass will outgrow the regular grass. Now go over it with a wick wiper loaded with roundup, set to a height half way between the that of the good grass and the coarse grass. Make two passes over the lawn. This will touch the tips of the coarse grass only.

The hard part is that I don't know of a small height adjustable wick herbicide applicator.

I don't believe it was the grass seed because I used the same seed in other areas that does not have this problem. I showed one of the weeds I pulled out to a local landscaping company. They were not 100% sure but they thought it was a crabgrass. They advised me NOT to mow it because that is what was spreading it. I started taking them out by hand (holy crap what a long hard job). After they are all out I plan on putting down a weed/crabgrass killer and hope for the best. Once that is down I will over seed to try to fill in the bare spots where the seeds were....unless there is a better option anyone has. I want to stay away form anything that will kill the grass if I can.

Get a spray tech to come look at it and spray it out. It looks like a form of crabgrass but not really sure. It seems to grow more vertically then horizontally. Is there new sprouts popping up? I would reseed this fall and use pre emergent in the spring

Did you bring any soil in for the lawn. I did a couple of years ago and had this come up. Its just an annual that thrives in hot heat. Use a pre emergent in the spring
