Does anyone else here blow before they mow?

My dad and I work together, he will be retiring at the end of the year and I will be solo. I have been helping him part time for about 10 years while at my regular job as a turf/golf course mechanic, gave that up at the beginning of this year to work full time with him and get to know his customers before taking them solo.

Anyway, he started out with a 42" Walker and he tried blowing before mowing because it picked up all the leaves and trash and made the yards look really clean when finished, I will add that we mow mostly in the old subdivisions of Memphis so there isn't a customer without some big old oaks, elms or magnolias that keep the yards full of sticks, small limbs and leaves. We blow everything, even trash out of the beds into the yard before we mow. We still use the Walker but also use a Gravely 148 with mulching kit to cut most of the back yards and I find it works well and really makes the yards look clean when finished. The only time we might pull a blower after mowing is if the grass is really wet and leaves clumps on the sidewalk, driveway or street from shaking loose when driving to the trailer.

I was just curious because I don't know that I have ever seen anyone do that besides us around here, but maybe I missed some. I guess if you are side discharging everything it would be hard to do. It seems to work well for us and wondering if anyone here does the same thing.

Have seen a whole lot of good info on here since I joined a couple of weeks ago, thanks and look forward to reading more from you guys.

I side discharge all the time, only time i blow first is to get leaves and debris out of beds or off the driveway, or if cutting an edge for the first time so it will chop up the clumps. I have to blow after mowing everytime.

"Blow BEFORE mowing"? Wouldn't that be like flushing BEFORE you drop a deuce? (Just joking)

Not routinely, but when I see an unusual amount of accumulated leaves, I do. Doesn't make much sense to mow and then blow leaves out onto a manicured lawn.

I have a couple of properties that always seem to have leaves, etc. against the curb on the street. I blow those up into the yard before mowing so they get chopped up with the grass. No sense blowing leaves onto freshly cut grass

We almost always blow before mowing, we blow the leaves from the flowerbeds into the lawn so we can bag em up.

Yes I do before I mow but after edge and trim. I use a mulch kit and it does work great. It seems like an extra step but it makes final cleanup faster.

Before, After and often during mowing. And also "vacumn" pine straw. Good word will save you a whole lot on advertising.
