It's never too early to, at the very least, plant the seed.

Bid high, negotiate down. Under promise over deliver. Have confidence.

Be careful what you wish for. Commerical accounts can make you some money but just as much they want something for nothing. If they don't feel like there getting the best bang for the buck with your service they will be quick to find another. Remember they are out there to make money just as much as you are.

Good Luck, Kevin

stick with locally owned businesses..... better chances than the cut throat national/regional ones.

How to Get Commerical Accounts

As far as waiting, no do not wait. We are bidding on many large commercial accounts and homeowners associations right now. This is the time when most places, at least around here, are taking bids and they will be all set for next year within the next few weeks. Always prepare for the next year early.

As far as contacts go, reach out to each company and find out the information of the property manager or whoever is in charge of the property. Once you have that info, call or email them and ask if they are accepting bids for the upcoming year. If they are, you may have to go to a walk through of the property, depending in the size. Around here all the managers of the landscaping companies meet with the property manager at the same time and get to your the property together. Then, you give them your proposal and wait for the call. This may be different for smaller commercial places, but for the larger ones this is what we go through.

Just make good contacts and be very friendly. If you get the contract, make sure you back up anything you say and let your work do the talking. Many times big commercial places are in contact and that can either make or break you. Commercial is way more intense then residential because it is so much more competitive. But if you get a good reputation, you'll be ahead of the game. Good luck!
