Exactly. When I say finance, I refer to taking out a loan. Credit cards are not used for "financing", I use mine for high price items I purchase but are not high enough to take loans out for but will pay for entirely within the next couple months (having new cards with no interest for 15 months helps ).

Truck body, please read the post.

Other local landscape companies that finance everything have come to me for short term loans. And they call me when cash gets tight to biy equipment off them.

I dont finance bc i dont have to. I save a crapload of money by paying cash. Which makes me more profitable.

Just a personal prference. I wish more guys would finance so i could buy more businesses and equipment for half price

Re-read the quote you posted. I said truck body.

I agree that if you can truly pay cash and not strain your business' cash flow then you should. But to say financing is an antiquated way of doing business is just ignorant. That's all.

You went back and edited the post.

And my point was paying greenbacks can save you money over using credit cards or getting a loan. Sometimes you can even avoid sales tax.

That is just my opinion. We are in a business of "want" not "need". We have a 16 trillion dollar national debt. At some point this economy is going to take a HUGE crap. I would rather be prepared.

I am friendly with all my competition, its either me or a loan shark. And to be fair I bought a client list from the guy a few years ago, so we do have some history.

I agree, I enjoyed the thread too so let's get it back on track. I'll take partial blame.

Goals: Maintain at least 25% growth over the next several years and find a quality landscape foreman that will allow me to be doing less hands on. Already have the maintenance side streamlined now I need to do the same with landscaping.

Bringing this back up.

So people made goals, some short term some long. With the year almost over how did it go? Did you reach your goals or blow right past or fall behind?

I wrote 5 goals.
1, grow 25% in sales. We will come up a bit short with that this year. We did just have one of our largest snowfalls in a 24 hr period that provided a week of work so that helped but still a bit behind.

2. To become more involved in the community. I believe we did this. Participated in lots of events and have built a good number of new quality relationships with people in the area.

3. Work on becoming more efficient. Yes and no. We did in some places but I believe there is always room for improvement.

4. Add another maint crew next season. Well we are not there but we have added enough work that the one can not complete it in a week. So on track but more to go with spring sales.

5.Add another 500k Sqft of turf to fertilize. Again same as above added more now getting ready for spring sales.
