eXmark Lazer Z hydro problem and questions.

My eXmark Lazer Z developed a pulsating sound coming from the right side of the hydro system. There was no change in performance. I couldn't pinpoint the sound as coming from the pump or wheel motor and not knowing a whole lot about the system dropped it off at the local eXmark dealer this morning. The dealer said they would flow test the hydro system and let me know what was wrong.

So I rented one of their demo mowers for the day. I get a call around 4:00 and the guy tells me my mower is ready and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

I go into pick up mower and drop off the rental. They tell me that the hydro system had "phenomenal" flow at 9 gpm on each side and the mechanic didn't hear any noise from they system. The owner of the dealership is their talking with me and asks his guy if there were any metal shavings or fillings in the reservoir his guy says no clean as could be.

I paid for 1.5 hrs labor 1 bottle of hydro fluid (they said it was low, I know for a fact it wasn't as I had just checked it before I dropped it off), misc shop supplies and the rental of the demo mower. They loaded the mower on my trailer and I left.

When I went to take the mower off my trailer I could still hear the pulsating noise coming from the hydro system. So I looked in the reservoir and the hydro fluid looked "shiny". I grabbed a magnet and got quiet a bit of metal out of the reservoir, see photo.

I am a little PO'd that I dropped my machine off for them to diagnose my problem and feel they didn't really do anything. I tried calling them of course its after hours.

How should I proceed? I'm guessing I shouldn't run the mower with theses shavings in the reservoir?

These guys stole your money...and lied to you...
Not sure I would let them work on it again...get your money back..
Hope you have other repair options...
If they don't return your money...call the law and press charges...

Ya got an AMEN here, Slapper.

Don't take any crap from 'em, Greg. With the evidence you have, you should have them by the short hairs.

Thanks for the support guys. It's a shame this happened. This dealership used to have a top notch mechanic who has helped me tremendously in the past but he now works at another location owned by the same dealer. I am not sure what I am going to do about the repair. I don't know anybody local that I would trust. Bad thing is I got 32 lawns that need done be Saturday before this hurricane gets here next week.

if you have a good history with the dealer...
Explain to him just how bad he screwed you...at the busiest time of the year..
He should give you a free loaner...and apply the previous payments to the repair...got a funny feelin its still gonna be evpensive...

Shavings usually come from the thrust bearings coming apart..

Thrust bearings are in the wheel motor correct? If it is the wheel motor going out will it take out the pump as well? I have decided I will do the repair myself. I already got a line a new pump and wheel motor. Just wanting to know which one to get?

I have a good relationship with the dealer. We will see how good it is tomorrow though. They will not be working on any of my machines again and I will not be buying equipment or supplies again. I really don't know what they can do to regain my trust.

No...thrust bearings in the cradle. Inside the pump.
Wheel motors seldom throw chunks of metal...just metal dust...
