Service connection question
I have a 2" connection to make and the pressure is around 125. i'm gonna put in a regulator, but i'm trying to figure how to tie in after the meter. Its a prefab meter pit that only has room for the water meter.
So out of the meter, i'm gonna come up to the RP and regulator, but i'm wondering how to do it. normally i would use PVC, but i think it's best to use copper. Assuming a male or female fitting coming off the meter pit, i figure i'll need and adapter (M/F) and an el with a riser, then an el into the assembly. After that i'll switch to PVC. My questions are, 1, assuming sweat fittings are not usable under ground, what do you recommend for the proper fittings? And 2, where to put the PRV, before or after the RPZ, assuming it will be an assembly? And 3, can you winterize through a PRV? i cant recall an instance where i ever did. thanks for all your help. pat |

if the meter isn't set yet you could use 2" K copper in a "U" shape that would go from the meter pit to above grade where you could make your sweat connections. then there would only be the connection in the pit for the water authority to make .

Copper looped up from meter pit to above ground location, set RP, copper down to PRV in valve box and go with PVC.

I haven't seen any problems with purveyors over sweat fittings below grade, as long as they're downstream of the meter.

its a pre-fab pit. the down pipe after the meter is pre installed. and done prior to us getting on site. i have to dig it up just to see what i have to work with

I would rather drill out of the foundation than have a connection 3'-4' below grade. Sweat or compression. I have seen buried copper corrode near sweat connections.

Is this meter just for irrigation? If so replace the pipe.

2-inch meters are flanged, so you can just get another flange and gasket.

Do sweat joints below grade meet code in NY ? I've always used compression.
