Engdangered Spider stops 15 million road project

http://www.kens5.com/news/local/169048996.html

I don't mind trying to relocate a polar bear or be as gentle as possible on the environment and I would be okay with moving a spider hole (quickly) if it will keep the environmental whackos happy, but to stop a 15 million dollar project because of an arachnid is insanity. So the contractor just idles his machinery, workers, and keeps traffic at a standstill? Ugh...

Ya, that's ridiculous. What I don't understand is how anyone has time to go look for these "endangered" creatures.

Same problem here. New bridge to Canada, was blocked because a endanger bird might fly into it. Nothing like blocking a 250 million dollar project.

Humans are endangered, let's get the humans moving faster in their automobiles, then we will worry about the little creepy crawlers, after we step on them with our shoe.

If spiders tasted like shrimp it would be a non-issue.
Since this spider is supposedly a cave spider and it was found in an area (that isn't known for caves), I suspect that they have no idea about its range or whether it is endangered. Just because they don't see many of them doesn't mean they aren't around. Besides, what if it was a species that only had a few members anyway? Rare would be normal..

Gotta love it...... Actually did a little more reading on this and to "confirm" the genus they had to dissect the spider thus killing it. And guess what, they havent found any more. Doh!

Ah yeah got to love the impact studies done on these jobs. Worked on a Medical center where a local collage sent out archaeologists to look through the soil for artifacts. Well to have some fun I tossed a double order of Chicken Wing bones into their dig and busted clay pots I got from Wallmart. It was all in good fun and they left sooner than later.
