Dry well clean out job
this is an irrigation client of mine who had water gurgling out of the ground when she back washed here pool. I dug with a shovel and found that the dry well was over flowing. I figured it was silted up, but had no access cover to clean. so we went back today with the new machine and dug it up. we cleaned the silt off the bottom and from out of the silts. then replaced the cover with one that had an access hole and re-routed a few pipes. went pretty well. pics are from start to finish.

I'd be curious to know why the lid was so far below grade.

how exactly do dry wells work?

they may have put it low because that's where they hit permeable sand.
this one is basically a tank with holes in the sides and an open bottom the sides are wrapped with a landscape style fabric to keep it from filling with dirt. water enters through a pipe and leaches out through the bottom and sides much like a septic system. there are other kinds out there too. |

where do the pipes that "feed" the well come from? all from down spouts, sump pump, french drain?

this particular one is just for the swimming pool filter back-wash. there are other larger ones on site for the down spouts.
