Intermitten AC on Chev Truck 2006 2500HD

The AC will suddenly start blowing hot on the driver side, the other side is cold and fine. Moving the temp control up/down does nothing. Turning the ac off/on does nothing to fix the problem. However if I turn off the engine and restart the cooling come back. I suspect it is the electricl mechanical device that is opening some door between heater and AC ducts. What do you think?

im gonna guess some sort of short in the wiring for the AC

I don't think it makes any difference whether I am driving or sitting in one place.

The hvac computer may have lost programming or had a fault causing the issue. Turn the radio and heat/ac off. Pull the hvac/ecs fuse under the hood for at least 3 mins. Then replace the fuse and start the truck......do not touch the ac or radio...leave it alone and let the truck run for 5 mins to see if it solves the issue. If this does not solve the issue it may be the drivers side actuator, which on that truck is easy to get to and replace , you can do it yourself. Try the reprogramming first and report back and we can go from there.

Yo its the air door actuator on the drivers side under the dash. This same exact thing had been going on in my dads 2005 suburban for the past few months. Just be cruising down the road and it goes hot on the drivers side while the passenger and the rear air are blowing ice cold. The only way to reset it was to turn the car off.

More specifically its called the Blend door actuator and is accessed from the drivers side basically right smack dab in the middle right above the hump. There are 2 (or should be) air door actuators one accessed from the drivers side and one from the passenger side don't get them confused! I've read that you do not want to plug the harness into the actuator until it is installed in the vehicle as it will over extend it or what not. I picked up one from LMC truck for about $140 but I've seen them for cheaper on amazon and what not. Sorry if this is confusing been a crazy week of seeding around here! Seems to be a common problem in Chevy/GMC trucks and SUVs. I know plenty of people with the same problem, and mine started doing it in Feb... always happens at the most inconvenient time. Googled the problem and people kept coming up with different solutions. Seemed like that actuator is the most common solution.

Blend door doesn't usually happen if it's sitting still. May be the temp sensor. Take it to a shop and have body codes scanned, that will get you going in the right direction.

Blend door is an expensive guess. Yes it is common, but there's ways to troubleshoot it.

Chevy's are not the only one plagued by that problem. Do a quick search on Ford F150 blend door problems, same symptoms and I experienced it. They even have a simplified instruction plan to repair the ford without the entire removal of the dash and blend box.
