I honestly already knew this but had a senior moment, anyway I did just get off the phone with a Scag technical specialist, and he did verify that any warranty work performed on their 28 hp Cat diesel must be performed by a certified Cat technician. I would think the 35 Cat diesel used in ZTR applications was also of a Perkins design, the tech is going to email me this information, he was also interested in knowing about the 35.

Cat bought Perkins somewhere in the later 90's I believe, but because of the European market being so diehard Perkins they left everything in Europe as it was before Cat purchased the Perkins operation. I guess they used the old philosophy, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I forgot to mention this, the Scag tech said the 35 Vanguard had been their real workhorse, and it was as I said, much more powerful than the 28 Cat. He and I were talking about power loss, and I told him the horizontal engine had a certain percentage of power loss by the time it transferred to the blades. He was saying even though the TT had a drive-shaft, there was still a change of direction for the engine to transfer power to the shaft. I told him I would guess the power to be in the 25 hp range at the blades, he said he did not know the percentage of loss but I certainly had his interest up enough to contact the factory and find out, and he would email me.
