I had to add oil to my LT2700-60D for a while. While I don't recall exactly how many hours, I'm pretty sure it was less than 100. Now, the level doesn't really move between changes.

The rings have not seated, usually this will take place within the first 50 hrs. sometimes possibly a little longer, maybe 100 hrs., but this is not usually the case. Whoever you talked with at your dealer is trying to pacify you when saying it could take up to 250 hrs. for the rings to seat. I can promise if it is using oil after 100 hrs., it will continue using oil. When I say using oil, any air cooled engine should burn a slight amount of oil, this is a means it uses for internal cooling.

Kohler does not consider oil consumption excessive until it goes above 2 ozs. per hr., whereas I personally believe 1 oz. per hr is becoming unreasonable. Kohler will not get involved from their warranty standpoint until the engine is using 2 + ozs. per hr., and I feel assured other manufacturers use the same guidelines.

Using a straight 30 wt. oil can slow consumption considerably over a multi-grade oil.

Hmmmm...looks like RestroRob is caught up....no comment...on Generac per say.
For the record...if they used a 400 finish hone ..with a 30 degree crosshatch...
The rings would seat within the first 5 hours.....just my 2 cents...

Generac makes a very good, and extremely strong engine. They have never caught on in the mower industry because of name alone.

I have a 2011 3372 and I changed oil and run 10w30 seem like the 15w40 lucas it would burn it faster I would add oil everyday but Started to use Castrol 10w30 and now might add little each week instead everyday
Found out this on my first 33hp bought 2006 They tried tell me same thing 250hrs should stop burning oil well first yr I put 550hrs and would still burn oil the amount it would use in 100 hrs was a gal they said that normal use That Lucas oils isnt cheap either I ask the dealer if I changed oil if void my warranty they said yes
So what they didnt know should hurt them
I put 10w30 Castrol after first yr and stop oil burning now that mower has 2800hrs and might have to add oil once a week during normal mowing week

I have a Generac with over 1200 hours on it and it runs strong, does not burn lots of oil.

Is the Lucas 10w40 a synthetic oil ?
An engine can not be broken in on synthetic oil..rings and bearings won't seat.
After 50 to 100 hrs its ok to change to synthetic oil..but not before.
