first time customers paying

How do you collect from new customers?

we have some regular customers that want service every 2 weeks an once a month. sometimes the monthly people forget about paying when we are there and we have to call them and remind them they hired to us.

We have just stated this business and was thinking we might need to remain in contact with the new customers by calling them the day before and letting them know we will be out there on "this date" and to leave a check under the mat or make arrangements prior to us coming out.

What are some ways your customers leave you payments?

Like I said we are new and all of our customers are new. We don't want to be that $25 lawn cut guy.

We have one customer we have never even met. He called me because we went door hanging in that area. He wanted weekly service and paid in full one month. His next payment is due this week. Should I call and remind him?

Sooo many more questions to come,

Zippy-Phil

I always get a check for the very first service and then bill monthly after that.

I collect in advance on my monthly accounts and COD for my weekly accounts. Granting so many different terms other than the last Two mentioned insure you will never get paid on time.

I bill once a relationship is established (1 season/part season), if I feel they are trustworthy. If I get a felling they may not be reliable for billing I do not offer it to them. Keep them on pay as I go or prepay! All new clients pay as I mow or prepay for the month. I picked up new one mid season & she is never home the time & day I mow. I send her a teaxt reminder the morning I am scheduled to mow & she replies "check is ************** (pre arranged location). I will offer her billing next season, as she seem to be good for it.
