Why would you do this?
I'll say first off that I'm not nearly the professional that most of you are, but I guess I found the steps rather "hacky".
Why would a manufacturer put something like this in their catalog. Maybe it's fine, I don't know much, what do you think. |

You are correct, that's a terrible photogragh to have used.
About 2 or 3 years ago Techo-bloc has a picture of a patio with a border with really wide and really ugly gaps. Bad for Techo to have used the picture, but good for me because I used that pic as a sales opportunity by pointing it out to prospective customers as an example of what *isn't acceptable*. And I believe Nicolock (?) had a pic of a job where the joint sand wasn't thouroughly swept out of the joints. Again, I use the opportunity to my advantage. .

If you look in Techo's 2012 catalog they used a photo of a wall that looks pretty bad, the corner looks messed up and the joints are off.

Believe it!!
Borgert - just looking at their online catalog. Hesitated to say who it is, but I guess, if they have no better sense, they deserve to be ridiculed. Talk about DENSE, and this is completly off topic, listen to this conversation. http://wyrk.com/please-move-the-deer...g-signs-video/ |

No, they don't. We use about 50% Borgert products, 50% Belgard. Borgert's catalogs usually have a handful of awful pictures in them. Besides their catalog, they put out pretty good product.

I could use almost every manufacturer's catalog to pull examples of crappy design. If I had to guess, the criteria for getting your job in a catalog are 1) is it standing? 2) is it finished (plantings, etc)? and 3) does it use a crapload of the manufacturer's product? That's it.
The catalogs are geared at the homeowner, who just think it all looks awesome. It's up to us to take that nugget of an idea in the catalogs and actually create something good.
