Stihl Gas Cap--No bashing Just Info Needed

Okay I finally got bit with the funny gas cap that just came apart when I went to put it back on. Broke! This was on a chain saw. Now I would just go to dealer and order another one but would be afraid the stihl stock hasn't been purged of the bad design? Is there a way to tell new level from old. Since my dealer is mainly Echo they probably dont stay up on these little problems.

The gas cap on my kombi was recalled and was replaced no charge, but that was a couple of years ago. My new kombi has a "new" style cap that is actually real nice.

All dealers should have the new style caps but you may have a unique dealer. The issue was with ethanol I think. I broke one on the chainsaw a few years back too. It was about 10 bucks for the new one. If you aren't sure your dealer has the new ones I would suggest a different dealer if possible. Ask to see if yours was covered by the recall and maybe you can save a few bucks. Good Luck.

If I'm not mistaken, the chainsaw fuel caps weren't recalled. They're still an occasional PITA, but they didn't have the issues the other caps (trimmers, edgers, blower etc) had.

Info on the fuel caps identification marks can be found here

The caps were not recalled on the chainsaw. If you look on the inside of the cap there will be an E in a square, those are the new ones

Ya I was talking one thing and saying another. I had the cap from my BR600 replaced on recall and my chainsaw cap I just plain broke and bought a new one. I will say I haven't had any problems since I got the 2 new caps.
