new sod turned yellow
I have a customer (school) that had a large addition put on and they had a company come in a lay sod (40k sq') and a good portion of it the tips have turned yellowish brown. I don't have pics yet.
Any hints to what would have caused this so soon after being installed?

The edges or tips are drying out... it may be wise to put some soil down along those seams and soak them down real good... if those yellow tips are dead at the end of the season add seed for a dormant seeding...

What is it? Kentucky bluegrass? Have you had many frosts yet? What are the night time low temps?

good chance its rust, seeing alot of it on lawns that are a little hungry....

Sounds like fungus of some sort. Happened to a customer of mines new sod too about 2 weeks ago after it was really wet for several days.
Is the sod from Winding Brook in Wethersfield? Last edited by Darryl G; 10-24-2012 at 11:17 AM. Reason: added question

These pics were taken today. This is about 40k sq'. Everything around the edges which was put down about a week later is still pretty good. A lot more green and very little yellow. Image that whole area looking yellow.
The soil is soaking wet at this site too.

That is normal stress and whatever the diagnosis may be given by name, it often results from poorly cared for sod... soaking wet as you put it is another evidence of poorly handled sod... tell them to back off the water, in fact this time of year, maybe shut it right off foor the rest of the season, even if the roots haven't started yet...
Maybe there should be a thread about how roots like moist soil AND air... seed too... more is better? more is better! more is better...
