Hustler Fast Track or Scag Freedom?

I'm a home owner of about 2.5 acres and am considering buying a Hustler Fast Trak or a Scag Freedom. Any thoughts?

We had a FastTrak Super Duty and we loved it. Handled anything we threw at it. I would almost say, without knowing the price differenc, if you can go for the SCAG in terms of $$ then you should. You can never go wrong with SCAG and I have heard people say the cut quality on the Hustler isn't miraculous.

Of course we thought it was great, but that's all we knew... We had no experience with any other ZTR brand.

The freedom is the lower end of the scag and comparable in price with the hustker. Within a couple hundred dollars. I have heard the scag cuts really nice but the deck on the freedom is a different deck then all the other higher end Scag's so I didn't know how well it performed in comparison.

Even though the Freedom Z does not have the velocity deck, it still cuts and stripes better than the hustler deck. They use the same hydros, similiar motors etc. The Hustler "looks" a little more commercial, but they are actually pretty much the same spec wise.

The Freedom Z needs a canister air filter though I think.....

I'm also not a fan of the cable used on the deck elevation. Wouldn't think I would cost that much more to do like the other models.

The Freedom Z has its own deck and does not use the Velocity deck like the rest of Scag's line as has been stated above. That said it seems to perform well. The Freedom Z also sits lower than the Hustler which you may or may not like. Between the two I would go with the one that has the best dealer support in your area. Both are good brands.

I recently bought a 36" freedom Z, i have used it once, i only bought it because it had 8 hours and the owner only wanted $2500. It cuts really nice an leaves nice stripes. I would definantly recomend it.

I have a freedom z48in with the 19hp kaw. I really like the mower cuts and stripes as good as any other scag

That 19hp engine was another concern of mine. Most of the other machines in that category have at lest 24 hp engines. Is the 19 really enough to cut a week or so worth of growing at full speed?
