Things I Liked at the Irrigation Show

In no particular order:

- New modular controller from Toro. Huge display, onboard diagnostics, etc. Will compete with ESPM and Pro-C A real step ahead

- K-Rain's rotator nozzle. Beats MP in adjustability and ease of use.

- Drainage products from Rain Bird. Earn points now on catch basins, grates

Strange stuff I didn't like:

- Innogation - one head in the middle of the yard

- Hunter Node. A step backward for SVC

- Too many low end landscape lights. Now Orbit Irrigation is making crappy lites too!

Too early to tell:

- push on PVC fittings (no glue) from Lasco. Orbit also has some too.

The only thing I care for from Toro IMO is precision's and TPV valves. My boss had a bag of those Toro rotator nozzles for a front yard and I told him there coming out and MP1000's are going in. Orbit at the irrigation show?

i have never heard of such a show around here, but would love to attend one if so. how can krain be easier than mp rotators? they are as easy as they come really. and toro, well they better step up cuz their clocks suck bigtime.

Last Toro clock I hung had a special pitail with tinned ends and there was a terminal block inside the high volt junction box. PITA Although that weather sensor can be used with older controllers to upgrade older systems. I forgot 300's are cool.

I fell in love with Weathermatic's SmartLink. WOW. I know it's not new, but newish. Brilliant online UI.

Other than that... mehhh. Took 3 classes that I had hoped would be a bit more involved, but pretty basic.

A couple of test should garner a couple of certs, and we're off.

I wonder how many States require annual certs to keep up their irrigation contractor's license? It's not a bad idea, but any of those meetings I ever attended were so simple as to be meaningless.

there is not any here, but some cities require them. but, as stated, they are meaningless ways to collect money rather than ensure any quality. there is a push though, in our area to get a required certification. there is one already offered, but until they are required it is meaningless. it is a very rigorous field test and written test that truely measures your competence in design and repair. i am sure most would fail that work around here.

Sounds like another great opportunity for state and federal bodies to reach into our pockets for something that they will never enforce anyway. I already have enough municipality, city & state licenses to fill a small book with. Im pretty much done encouraging these clowns to regulate something they are not going to enforce with any vigorous nature anyway.
