Both my 23HP Kawis had coils go at under 500 hrs. They were both 2005 or 2006 vintage.

How did your Kawis act when the coils started going out.

I had a coil pack go out on my 21 Kaw last year at about 250 hours.
Spitting and sputtering is what I remember.

A twin cylinder engine will start running (intermittently) on 1 cylinder. One cylinder initially "cuts out" for a very short time, but it gets progressively worse until the cylinder (with the bad coil) cuts out all together.

At least that's been my situation. I'm sure somebody else will chime in if they have had a different experience.

I used my mower all day running fine as usual. Left it on the trailer over night. Next morning it wouldn't start. It would turn over strong but wouldn't start. After messing with the fuel filter and choking it for 10 mins it finally started and sounded like crap. Idled it all the way up and it missed worse than any small engine I have ever heard. My mechanic heard it and said hed bet money that it had a bad coil. It did. He also said that even though one was bad I might as well change both of them or I'll be back before the year is up so I did.

What kind of cost are we talking about here? I've never had one go out on any of my machines with a Kawi yet.
