The Stihl 131 is sweet. The company I used to work for had one that we used all them time. It had plenty of power and wasnt too akward to use. Shindy does make a pole saw but its not telescopic and Im not really familiar with the other brand so I would get the stihl.
If you need the reach, the echo ones do go a bit further with the extension option. They just dont have as much power and seem to be a bit more awkward. Im not a fan of their loop trigger handle. To me it was uncomfortable.

I bought a Echo 260 but that was in 06, the dealer told me the boom section was way better than a Stihl and it was noticeably better built even to the eye and has been great. No problems but it see's limited use. I have seen several Stihls with bent poles.

My workhorse pole saw is an echo ppt260. I have a typo in my signature.....anyway. I've run that thing in emergency jobs for a few years. Hurricanes, nor' easters, blizards, derechos, tornadoeS, micro bursts......hell, i think it might run in a nuclear apocolypse.....i call it "the roach".
Its easy to operate well balanced and if the original adjustmant collar goes down you can make you own repair with nuts and bolts. Biggest thing with polesaws.....proper cuts........cut away from branch collar......reLief cut to drop it then flush the nub.....i see a lot of guys try to take a 12-14 branch top to bottom and get the saw Hung up and jammed....then they damage the saw and damage the tree.... Yes polesaws keep you from climbing.....but are no sub for a proper pruning cut.......a proper prune can be done with a pole saw i have just noticed a lot of workers are lazy with em........go echo!

Or are you just that much of a one sided ass?

Ok ok ok.......a little foot in mouth here......i'll own up to it.......im 30 but look 20.....i take my local buddy's and lco's ball busting and chuckle with em.....i hear it all day everyday......i also work in the public safety field full time and hear it from those guys to.......i thought someone put kkane97 up to it........,not the case....i overreacted and it out of character for me.......sorry, i think all of us in new england are a little stressed.......i call it the sandy/athena threesome gone wrong..........anyway.........if you cant laugh at youself.......you cant laugh others......until i looked at the op's stats i ddnt realize he stated he was 14. So sorry kkane97......i could have deleted my reply, but thought someone may have seen it so i'll eat my words a bit
Ohh the echo polesaw.......still kicks ass No 14 year old should be trimming/pruning trees........ And i am pretty sure a 14 year old can not carry a lic. Or insurance.........or own a business or legally bill.......or sign contracts Hiring a 14 year old is illegal and irresponsible.....i appreciate entreprenurship and a willingness to work but step off and let thereal guys do this.
