Scag SWZ walk behind
How can I tell what deck I have on a Scag swz mower? I bought it used and most of the deck is rusted out. Its a 36 inch but thats all I know.

It just looks like the old standard deck. On the 36 they went to the advantage deck about 10-12 years ago, and still use the same deck today.
Yours is the style they used before the advantage deck. Your deck doesn't look all that bad as for the performance or operation. I don't see any holes in the deck. A little sanding and paint would do wonders. |

The mower is in good shape for the most part. The guy said it was working fine and just stopped. He took it to the dealer and they told him that the carb needed replaced. He got a rider and never fixed this one. It looks like maybe part of it was covered but the deck was out in the rain and it rusted. I cleaned the carb and it started right up everything workes too.

I have the same deck too. Cuts great, just as good or a tad better than the advantage. The only thing I've noticed that isn't as good is cutting in wet grass. It clumps easier than the advantage (and I believe the advantage has a bigger discharge opening)

How old do you think the mower is?

No clue. I bought mine used with not much info on it 4-5 years ago. I'm currently on my 3rd engine (upgraded to 17hp Kaw). Haven't replaced anything else other than the deck belt. But like Johnagain said they switched to the new deck 10-12 years ago. Why do you want to know how old it is?

I gotcha. I never figured out mine and don't have an owners manual. I'm sure you could find a model number on it somewhere though. I've just never ended up needing one. I've always been able to find the right part #'s from diagrams usually from online part companies. They're rather simple machines overall not counting the hydro's, wheel pumps, and engine as those are all made by different companies
