Edging around a pool?
Okay I got my first account with a pool, the customer got rid of the last guy because he had to clean out his pool everytime he serviced the yard. How do you go about edging around a pool without getting debris in the pool?

You don't, lol.
It depends on the layout of the pool. On many pools, there's a walkway and/or patio around the whole pool. In that case it's pretty easy to keep clippings out. However, I have one account where for about half of the distance around the pool there's nothing but a coping a few inches wide. The only way I can keep trimmings out of the pool when trimming/edging that area is to have someone on the other side of the pool blasting a large backpack blower at me full throttle while I trim...not very practical. So what I usually do it just throttle my trimmer back as much as possible, make sure to go clockwise and grab the skimmer when I'm done and try to scoop most of the clippings outs before they spread out across the whole pool. I also try to mow as close as I can with my mower to have as little to trim as possible. I always bag the area immediately surrounding a pool. Last edited by Darryl G; 11-10-2012 at 06:38 PM. I go over to the pump and kick it on while I mow....then empty the filter basket....usually will clean it in ten minutes...but I have used skimmer to get big pieces

Do not use string to trim. Use a Redmax Reciprocator or Maruyama Landscape Blade.

This is another reason to use a stick edger. Get yourself one with a good sized blade guard and heavy duty mud flap.

I hate carrying extra equipment and having to go back to truck for one small area of yard

I have one, I'll try that to. I think I'll reinforce the mud flap so as to force the debris down to the ground more.

LOL and many people with a pool think they should get a discount because there is not as much to mow.

Any lawn that merits something different from the hack it with a rotary and string trimmer should not be on the same fee schedule. I know people that think mowing of a 2 acre lawn should have some kind of volume discount. Not!!!!!. Their lawn has a million trees, plenty of edging and trimming to be done. There is also no way to fit a triplex fairway mower into the lawn either. 27" 7 blade walk behind only.
