Case 40XT serial number location

I'm looking at picking up a Case 40XT.

the seller stated that it is a theft recovery and he has paperwork for the machine.

The usual serial number plate by your leg is missing - kind of expected if it was a theft recovery.

Is the serial number stamped anywhere else on the machine? I want to make sure the paperwork he has is for this machine.

Thanks!

I used to work for a Case Dealer, and when we did PDIs on new equipment, we marked down the serial numbers from each hydraulic cylinder as well as the machines serial number. You should check with the dealer if you can find out where it was originally purchased to see if they have any record of that. The number on the cylinders are usually on the cap where the piston rod comes out.
