Phone book add?????

I just got a call from the at&t phone book. They have been doing something new as to were you only pay for the calls you get. In the past I have not had much luck with the phone book but thought I might try this.

The way it works is if you run say a one inch add. You will be charge 8 dollar per call. On the monthly bill they will discount it by about 30% for miss calls and telemarketers. So really its about 7 a call. You can also set it up for a range as to how far you are willing to go for work.

Anyway just wondering if anyone has tried this and had any luck.

Does the call route though them? How do they track the number of calls you get?

Iv heard something like this before I think they give you a new number just listed in that ad so they can prove it works. To me they are kind of like block buster video they are in a soon to be extinct business model and are desperately trying to find some last minute fix to save them.

When I was foolish and tried them 9 years ago I got a dollar bill sized add and got to pay 5600 for it. And when it failed to get me enough to even cover the cost of the ad the solution was it must not have been big enough how about a half page ad. When I laughed at that idea they suggested some sort of pay for the calls I get ad instead.

Yes they put a different number in the book and than it routes to your number. This way you only pay for the numbers they generate.

I agree that phone books are becoming a thing of the past, they put you on the web too. So when someone does a google or some other search they can still get your number.

I have tried the phone book in the past with zero results. But I have also put adds in the paper, flyers, you name it. Word of mouth from my other customers has always been the best.

you can get a free ad on the yellow pages online. It's not like a picture ad but puts your business in search engines.

www.yellowpages.com

everything i'm using is 100% free. i use Yellow pages, thumbtack, angie's list, and facebook. all free advertising.

These people done lost their minds.

Man I done heard it all now.

A good part of the reason why I stopped advertising in the phone book is because the ONLY calls I would get was from people trying to SELL me their garbage, it pissed me off royal to have to PAY for the privilege of being bombarded with phone call advertisement.

But now, they want to do what?
Pay only when I get a call, oh, that's great!

And how do I know who it is calling, where do I get the reassurance they don't just call the special number themselves, and I bet I still have to pay for telemarketers to call!

But that's not all...
A phone number is a part of a business, like the name and the name of the owner and the workers, too, it is something customers learn to recognize and like it or not your phone number is as much a part of you and your business as anything and everything else.

When you change a phone number people are likely to think all sorts of things.
Changing a phone number usually only helps create confusion.

That's just for starters, I'm sure there's more.
A lot more.

No sir, it has been many years, but when I made the break I swore off that mess forever.
